Paula Cooper Gallery is pleased to propose an installation of Luciano Fabro’s important sculptural work “L'Infinito”—a floor piece from 1989 first shown at the Gallery Micheline Scwajcer in Antwerp. Known for poetic, visual acuity and intuitive forms, Fabro (1936–2007) was a central figure in the movement to redefine sculpture in post-war Italy. Although he was closely associated with Arte Povera, Fabro described himself as a ‘heretic’ of the movement—a position which granted him a broad, open and collective sense of culture that extended beyond a single nation or time period. “L'Infinito”, composed of steel and marble, evokes the haptic quality of the sculptural surface as a means to explore notions of nature, mythology, and history.
