This publication includes a collection of 35 texts from Adrian Piper’s work Decide Who You Are and was published in conjunction with an exhibition at Paula Cooper Gallery, October 6–31, 1992.
Piper is widely regarded as one of the most influential artists of her generation. Her influence has stretched from the emergence of Conceptual Art in the 1960s and 1970s to the development of identity-based art in the 1980s and 1990s. In her work Piper addresses attitudes of gender, race, identity and difference. She received her B.A. in Philosophy from the City College of New York in 1974 and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Harvard University in 1981.
